Most vehicle keys are fitted with a transponder (chip) which is a small electronic device that will fit into the head of the key or onto the circuit board of the central locking remote control. Immobilisers stop the vehicle from starting. All cars sold in the UK market have factory immobilisers from 1995 onwards. The operation of the immobiliser is usually shown with a red flashing light (led) in the clocks. When the light is flashing the immobiliser is active. Alarms make a loud noise when there is a theft attempt. Not all vehicles have an alarm. There are lots of different types of factory immobiliser fitted to Renault vehicles.
